The real Italian Ice Cream made with natural and ecological ingredients

The philosophy behind Tartufo La Gelateria is, like many other artisan businesses, linked to the story of a life, a philosophy and the ethics which every individual assigns to what they do. Because my cultural background is Switzerland, where I was born, and northern Italy (from my mother’s family) I grew up eating natural products, but over the years I have seen how the use of these has diminished because of the intervention of the food industry in many of the foods that we eat.

Today we need to return to the way food used to be, and I am delighted to see that more and more people are interested in ecological and natural products these days. I should also point out that until only a couple of generations ago, these were what people used to eat every day – there was nothing else :-)

This is why I decided that at Tartufo we would only use ingredients with no additives, colourants or other products of chemical origin. I also decided to use organic milk, because it gives a better flavour and is a very healthy food, especially for children – and we all know how much they love ice cream. For me, the dream of an ice cream shop and factory grew from the fact that during my childhood I used to go often with my parents to the village where my mother grew up, near Milan, and we used to visit my aunt Cheka, my mother’s sister, who had a bar/ice cream parlour in the village and a small farm with cows, hens, rabbits etc. My aunt made her ice cream from the milk of her own cows, the eggs from her hens and vanilla (which she bought), and she would add a sprinkling of carob flour, which we also use at Tartufo, as a stabiliser. I have never forgotten the delicious and intense taste of those ice creams, and I never will. And that is how my dream began, of making ice creams using nothing but natural products and to genuine original Italian recipes.

The quality of the ice creams we make at Tartufo is notable by the fact that they are lights (low fat), they are delicious and delicate, and they leave you with a clean-tasting palate.

I invite you to try the Tartufo ice creams at the shop in Mijas Pueblo. We offer samples because, no matter how hard I try to explain, you have to taste them for yourselves to see how delicious and how healthy they are. After all, a taste cannot really be described in words.

Finally, in the photo (which was taken over 25 years ago), you can see from the left: my aunt Cheka, who made the ice cream and who is very elderly in the picture, my mother Anna and my son Andy.

Thank you, and good natural ice cream!
